An outdoor wedding on Portobello Beach

Yes it’s possible to have an outdoor wedding in Edinburgh! But only if you’re embracing whatever the weather gods throw at you. Gemma + Victoria’s day was wonderfully windy, with quirky details and a DIY wedding dress – yes you heard that right! Victoria has a history as a costume designer and made her own amazing dress that coincidentally matched Gemma’s tweed suit – and that wasn’t planned at all!

Maggie Kinloch (humanist celebrant) conducted their ceremony beautifully, despite the glaring sun – and her voice reached all the friends and family that had gathered around the DIY sand castle aisle that Victoria and her daughter Cora walked down together. It was such a unique setup, and so many personal touches made this day extra special. A reception at a nearby local pub followed, and as I only stayed for prep, ceremony and portraits this day I didn’t join in the festivities but I’m sure it was a cracking party!

I had THE most fun on the beach after the ceremony for their portraits. Have a look for yourself to see how excited and happy both brides were, dancing around in the sand.

Victoria and Gemma did most of their own preparations, details and planning for this outdoor wedding in Edinburgh – including a DIY wedding dress made by Victoria herself. I’m amazed at their vision and creativity to create something truly unique. Are you looking to have an outdoor wedding in Edinburgh any time soon? I’d love to be there!
