Supplier shout-out! Wedding florists in Glasgow Lavender & Rose Events
This year I’m going to write a few full-length pieces on suppliers I recommend, and here goes the first for wedding florists in Glasgow.
I remember last year when I photographed Amy & Gemma’s gorgeous wedding at Cottiers in Glasgow (similar vibe venue to Mansfield Traquair in Edinburgh), and I saw their beautiful succulent wedding bouquets! I just had to know who made them so beautifully.

I found Lavender & Rose (wedding florists in Glasgow) via Instagram later, and have since just got this lovely vibe from them via their profile and through personal messages. Turns out they don’t just do flowers – their beautiful prop hire selection is perfect for anyone wanting to be a bit more sustainability conscious when it comes to their wedding. A little while back I sent Lavender & Rose a few questions to answer that hopefully can be of help to anyone planning their wedding.

Environmentally conscious prop hire, event stylists and wedding florists in Glasgow
Rosie and Jess are twin sisters, floral designers and wedding stylists from a small town called Helensburgh which is about 45 minutes from Glasgow. They work from a studio there and cover most of Scotland. They started off aiming to do mostly props but somehow became more known for their florals, which they try to do in the kindest way to the planet as possible, avoiding the use of floral foam and using as many British blooms as they can get their paws on. Their style is modern and natural with a grounding in classic colour combinations and timeless arrangements. Below they’ve answered lots of questions for us to learn more about what’s important when it comes to wedding flowers and styling.

You work together with your wedding florist from booking to final creation to achieve your dream results
We only book people in up to a year ahead so that there’s a fair chance your date will be available. That means people usually have a good idea of what they’d like and there isn’t too much chance your tastes will change in 12 months!
When someone initially enquires we send over our detailed info pack which gives lots of outlines on things like price, style and how the booking process works. After booking in your date, it’s all much more fun. We work with the couple to produce a moodboard, taking the lead from how they want their day to look and feel. Then there are usually a couple of meets (or FaceTime) where we narrow things down, fine tune and finalise the order before turning up on the big day with their flowers and props ready to turn any venue into a wonderland.

People dream about their wedding days for years, so it’s not surprising that most of the time couples know exactly what they want. What I would say though is, the couple of times we have been given an open-ended brief we’ve had the best feedback and we thought those flowers were some of the most beautiful we ever did – there’s something magical about shaking off the shackles of a pre-conceived brief.

A love for unusual wedding flowers and creative wedding styles
Without a doubt the most fun thing about our job is when someone brings something a bit unusual to the table and leave us to let our imagination run wild. We also love seeing everything come together on the day. So much goes into planning the styling of a wedding, with months of work going on behind the scenes, that to see it all as you imagined it would look in real life – or even better – on the day is such an incredible feeling. The thing about weddings is that they can’t be anything other than fun, they’re about two people declaring their love to one another surrounded by all their favourite people so we feel very lucky to play a little part in these everyday miracles throughout the year. We genuinely get a buzz and a warm giddy fuzz off every single one.

Prop hire and wedding florists in Glasgow – in combination these often give the best most coherent style
We love doing full wedding styling, which allows us to use our supply of props and finishing touches. These range from big copper archways to teeny tiny place names. We have lots of things listed on our site, but regularly make bespoke props for clients too. We always find that when we do full wedding styling, combining props and flowers, we get the best most coherent results.

If you have a budget for wedding flowers it’s important to discuss this with your florist
It might be non-romantic but knowing budget is so important. This allows us to suggest items that will give the most impact within their framework and avoids us selling in a dream that just might not be possible. Additionally we LOVE alternative forms of inspiration – from colour swatches and textured fabric samples to magazine shoots and architecture; don’t just send us your Pinterest board, send us everything that inspires you, and anything that makes you feel happy. From this we’ll be able to get a really well-rounded impression of you both as people which allows us to create a bespoke, personal plan for your wedding style.

Using Scottish or British grown flowers are more environmentally friendly and often give a more natural, whimsical shape to final arrangement
You can now get flowers all year round from the markets, which are flown hundreds of thousands of miles around the globe, but this doesn’t sit easily with us.
Seasons are of course crucial in the world of flowers, and we think working with stems that naturally bloom the month you’re married is such a lovely reminder each year of that special date in your diary. You can now get flowers all year round from the markets, which are flown hundreds of thousands of miles around the globe, but this doesn’t sit easily with us. Where possible we like to use Scottish or British grown flowers and are always on the hunt for new suppliers who can provide us with stems that are beautiful and unique. These kinds of flowers are often scented and imperfect, giving a more natural, whimsical shape to final arrangements and filling the room with their perfume.

We love creating interesting suspended wedding flowers – they always look so amazing!
The most ‘interesting’ things we do are always the suspended pieces (suspended wedding flowers), and we’re using the quote marks there because they’re sometimes interesting in a ‘will this actually work’ way. But you know what? They always work, they always look amazing and they’re always the most fun to stand back and admire once you’ve dusted yourself down from the hundreds of little leaves that have made their way into your hair.

Shop small and support your local suppliers
We love how many talented small companies thrive in Scotland’s wedding industry so all we’d like to say is where you can, please shop small – it makes such a difference to the little guy and we guarantee you get better results for taking the punt.
